Ubisoft's 2003 action-platformer Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been integrated into the GOG Preservation Program, bringing significant technical enhancements to the classic title. This initiative aims to ensure the availability and compatibility of older games on contemporary and future PC hardware. The updates follow the recent cancellation of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake by Ubisoft.
GOG detailed the game's inclusion in the program, noting that its team has developed a lightweight wrapper to address compatibility issues with modern systems. The enhancements include support for widescreen and ultrawide displays, adjustable camera scaling, a selectable frame rate, and an in-game overlay for on-the-fly adjustments to field-of-view and other settings. These improvements aim to resolve the physics and display glitches that previously affected the game on newer hardware.
The GOG team's wrapper architecture is described as game-agnostic, suggesting potential for updating other DirectX titles in the future, though each game will require custom reverse engineering. To commemorate the game's addition to the Preservation Program, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is available at a discounted price of $2.99 until August 23.
