Paradox Interactive has announced a new closed beta for the long-delayed Prison Architect 2, offering a potential sign of progress toward a new release date. The sequel, originally slated for launch in 2024, experienced several delays, including an indefinite hold that left players waiting for over two years with minimal official updates.

This upcoming beta, scheduled to run from September 9-15, follows an initial closed beta held in April. This April session marked the first official communication from Paradox regarding the game since its indefinite delay. Details on the beta sign-up sheet indicate that participants will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, suggesting that any gameplay or progress revealed from this phase will likely remain confidential.

Paradox initially cited the need for more time to enhance both the game's performance and its content when the indefinite delay was announced in August 2024. At that time, the company also offered refunds to those who had pre-ordered the game. The title has been unavailable for purchase since then, leading some to speculate about its potential cancellation. The original Prison Architect, released over a decade ago, garnered success across PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and iOS platforms. Prison Architect 2 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, in addition to PC.
