Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will launch on December 10, 2026, Level-5 announced during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation. This marks the first mainline entry in the Professor Layton series in over a decade, following 2013's Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy.
The game sees the return of Professor Hershel Layton and his assistant Luke Triton. The narrative begins with Professor Layton receiving a letter from Luke, prompting him to travel to the burgeoning American town of Steam Bison, which is reportedly experiencing a series of mysterious incidents. The game is set during the early days of the industrial age.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam was initially revealed in 2023 with an expected 2024 release window. The new 2026 date follows a year-long delay. While the announcement was made during a Nintendo Direct, the game is slated for release on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC via Steam.
