Amazon has confirmed that Project Hail Mary will be available to stream on Prime Video starting this Friday, July 3. This announcement follows the film's recent availability on MGM+.

The release date was revealed through a video clip from Prime Video, featuring a quote from the film where Ryland Grace, portrayed by Ryan Gosling, excitedly exclaims, "It is time go!" This marks the film's debut on Amazon's primary streaming platform.

Project Hail Mary was initially released digitally after a theatrical run exceeding 50 days. It then became accessible on MGM+ on June 18, leading to some questions about why its streaming rights were initially limited to that service. Amazon may have intended the MGM+ exclusivity to drive subscriber growth.

It remains unclear whether the studio always planned for Project Hail Mary to be available on both services, or if the move to Prime Video is a reaction to the film's performance on MGM+. The expanded availability on Prime Video coincides with recent changes to Prime Video's subscription plans, including the introduction of a 4K Ultra HD ad-free tier called Prime Video Ultra, which carries an additional $2 monthly cost. To watch Project Hail Mary without advertisements, subscribers will need to pay an extra $4.99 per month on top of their standard Prime membership fee.

The film's upcoming streaming debut on Prime Video also follows confirmation of its Blu-ray release and the unveiling of a limited edition steelbook.

Project Hail Mary received a positive reception, earning an 8/10 review and being described as "thrilling, heartfelt, and hilarious." It currently stands as the third highest-grossing film of the year, and discussions are underway regarding the potential for expanding the novel's adaptation into a larger franchise. As part of this effort, Amazon and Maze Studios are developing a "mixed reality" experience titled Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, with author Andy Weir contributing to the project, which is set to explore events beyond the scope of the original book.
