CD Projekt Red has reportedly seen further layoffs impacting its multiplayer-focused Witcher spin-off, Project Sirius. According to a report, nine individuals working on the project have been let go, with an additional nine employees being moved to different teams within the company.
This development suggests a "broader shift in development strategy" at the studio, as cited by an unnamed source in the report. Despite these personnel changes, CD Projekt Red stated in a financial report in May that 83 people were still dedicated to Project Sirius, indicating a significant team remains involved.
Project Sirius was first announced in 2022 as part of a larger slate of Witcher projects, intended to offer both single-player and multiplayer components. Development began at the external studio Molasses Flood. However, the project underwent a reboot in the following year after the company re-evaluated its scope and commercial viability. CD Projekt Red later acquired Molasses Flood in 2025 to bring the development in-house.
Earlier this year, the project appeared to be gaining momentum with the hiring of a writer experienced in games like Destiny 2 and Guild Wars 2. Around the same time, reports also surfaced of a separate free-to-play mobile Witcher game being in development.
CD Projekt Red's primary focus remains on The Witcher 4. Before its release, a Witcher 3 expansion titled Songs of the Past is scheduled for next year, developed in collaboration with Fool's Theory. A sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is also confirmed to be in development. Eurogamer has reached out to CD Projekt Red for official comment on the Project Sirius situation.
