Project Zomboid, the enduring isometric survival game that has been in early access since 2013, is preparing to launch its significant Build 42 update on July 29th. Described by developers The Indie Stone as one of the broadest updates in the game's history, Build 42 has been in development for two years.
This upcoming version introduces several key features, including the official debut of animal husbandry, alongside a comprehensive revision and expansion of the crafting and building systems. Players can also expect new and reworked areas of the game's map, additional lore to uncover, an updated lighting system, and a general tidying of the user interface and menus.
Christian Allen, design director at The Indie Stone, expressed gratitude to the community for their continued support through testing and feedback. He noted the significant undertaking of Build 42 and highlighted the importance of the community's role in its development.
The update's focus on crafting and building aims to provide players with a wider range of options, from immediate solutions to more ambitious long-term self-sufficiency projects. Further details regarding these mechanics are anticipated closer to the release date.
It is important for players to note that existing saves from Build 41 will not be compatible with Build 42. Those wishing to continue their current playthroughs will need to opt into the "legacy41" beta channel on Steam.
