PS5 Exploits Continue as Jailbroken Consoles Gain PS3 Disc Emulation

Coder Swordpdf has unveiled RPS5S3, a new emulator that enables jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles to run games from physical PlayStation 3 discs. This development comes just three days after the release of PS5SX2, an emulator that brought PS2 disc emulation to the platform. A video demonstration showcases a physical copy of Gran Turismo 5 being booted on a PS5 via the RPS5S3 emulator.

Currently, RPS5S3 is not available for public download and is still in a testing phase, with the latest version identified as "RPS5S3 Test Build 3." A confirmed list of compatible PS3 titles is not yet available, but the PS5SX2 Discord server indicates that games such as Grand Theft Auto IV, God of War: Ascension, LittleBigPlanet, inFamous, and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift are among the most played titles within the emulator.

The RPS5S3 emulator appears to be a fork of RPCS3, a well-known PS3 emulator for PC. While Swordpdf has not officially confirmed this, the rapid development suggests the use of AI-assisted coding. Swordpdf previously acknowledged using AI coding assistance for the PS5SX2 project, and the swift turnaround from PS2 emulation to PS3 emulation further supports this theory. The release of RPS5S3 so soon after PS5SX2 implies that significant AI-driven development likely contributed to its creation, as a human developer would typically require considerably more time for such a feat.

This advancement marks another notable development in recent PS5 hacking and emulation news. It follows closely behind the "Relapse" jailbreak exploit, which supports a broader range of PS5 firmware versions, and the ability to emulate the PlayStation 5's operating system on PC. Both of these recent breakthroughs have also been linked to advancements in AI-assisted coding, suggesting a potential trend in the acceleration of console hacking and emulation through new development tools.
