PlayStation is bringing an AI-driven upscaling technology, similar to a key feature of the PlayStation 5 Pro, to the base PS5 model. This new feature, dubbed Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), is available starting today and is described as a "new performance tier of AI upscaling."
QSSR is derived from Project Amethyst, PlayStation's AI graphics initiative with AMD. It utilizes a refined neural network architecture and performance-optimized implementation to deliver AI-guided upscaling on the PS5. While PlayStation states that the PSSR on the PS5 Pro remains the "gold standard," QSSR is intended to provide noticeable improvements in both image clarity and stability for existing PS5 owners.
The technology debuts with two titles: Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei. Videos showcasing QSSR's effects have been released, allowing players to assess the visual enhancements. PlayStation plans to make QSSR broadly available to all developers, suggesting it could be implemented in future and potentially even some existing games.
In related news, the "Echoes of Sekihara" expansion for Ghost of Yōtei is launching alongside a complete edition of the game. Reviews for Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei are also available for those seeking further insight into these titles.
