PUBG: Battlegrounds Becomes a Tabletop Card Game With 'Final Circle'

The battle royale franchise PUBG: Battlegrounds is making a strategic pivot from digital battlegrounds to the tabletop with its newly announced card game, PUBG: Final Circle. This adaptation aims to capture the tension and survival elements of the video game in a competitive card game format.

PUBG: Final Circle joins a growing trend of video game franchises venturing into the tabletop space, following in the footsteps of titles like Resident Evil, Bloodborne, and Stardew Valley. However, it marks a significant entry as one of the first major battle royale titles to receive a tabletop adaptation.

Gameplay Mechanics

The core objective of PUBG: Final Circle is to be the last player standing after a series of combat rounds. Each participant begins with a unique character ability, and a new battleground is introduced each round. Players then draw cards to gather weapons and equipment essential for outmaneuvering and confronting rivals.

Combat in the game employs a trick-taking mechanic, where players typically must follow the suit of the first card played in an encounter. The strategic challenge lies in balancing the probability of winning a trick against the amount of damage that trick can inflict. Higher-value cards are more likely to win but deal less damage, while lower-value cards carry greater risk but hit harder. Players can employ special cards to counter opponents or use 'Ambushes' by matching previously played numbers. The winner of a trick gets to choose their next target, while the remaining survivors must utilize their collected gear and character abilities for defense.

As players are eliminated, the remaining contestants must carefully manage their hand of cards, equipment, and abilities to remain in the game. The ultimate goal mirrors the video game's iconic reward: the last survivor achieves victory and a "chicken dinner."

PUBG Studios and Krafton have not yet announced a launch date for the PUBG: Final Circle Kickstarter campaign. Interested players can sign up on the game's pre-launch Kickstarter page to be notified when crowdfunding begins.
