Marvel Comics is launching a new series of one-shot specials titled Punisher Showdowns, which pit Frank Castle against other formidable characters from the Marvel Universe. The inaugural issue, Punisher Showdowns: Black Widow #1, will see the Punisher cross paths with Natasha Romanoff.
According to Marvel's official summary, the story begins with a threat from a terrorist cell that sends Frank Castle to Las Vegas. There, Black Widow's intelligence on a Wolf Spider operative sets both heroes on a "bullet-riddled collision course." The issue explores whether the Punisher and Black Widow will cooperate or engage in conflict, promising "explosive and unexpected results" as the Punisher's war on the guilty intersects with other Marvel characters.
Tom Waltz, known for TMNT: The Last Ronin, is writing all the Punisher Showdowns issues. Greg Land provides the art for Punisher Showdowns: Black Widow #1, with colors by Rachelle Rosenberg. Future installments of the series will include Punisher Showdowns: Wolverine #1 by Waltz and artist Bruno Büll, and Punisher Showdowns: Winter Soldier #1 by Waltz and artist Edgar Salazar.
Punisher Showdowns: Black Widow #1 is scheduled for release on October 21. Copies can be preordered at local comic shops.
