Queen's Domain Arrives October 30, Blends King's Field Vibes with a Flying Sword

Fantasy RPG Queen's Domain is set to release on October 30th, developers Freshly Baked Games and Future Friends Games announced. The game is frequently compared to From Software's King's Field series and The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind due to its first-person perspective and deliberate combat.

Queen's Domain places players on a mysterious island inhabited by skeletal abominations, laser trees, and fishpeople, with a sleeping evil Queen at its center. The player character is the son of a man who has gone missing on this island, adding a personal stake to the exploration.

Combat in Queen's Domain involves a holy sword that allows for a blink-jump ability, alongside an arsenal of throwable weapons with a cooldown. A stamina bar also governs actions, and players can level up their characters. The combat loop is described as an exercise in carefully timed attacks and evasive maneuvers, emphasizing a stately retro approach to skull-pummelling.

The game's setting is a significant focus, featuring labyrinthine environments that draw comparisons to Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy 12. Developers have utilized pixelation to create the illusion of intricate filigree and weathered stone, contributing to the game's distinct aesthetic.

Key features highlighted by the developers include over 50 melee weapons to discover and upgrade, more than 20 types of secondary throwing weapons for varied combat strategies, and over 100 enemies, mini-bosses, and bosses to overcome. The game promises dozens of hours of adventuring and exploration.

A demo for Queen's Domain is currently available on Steam for those eager to experience the gameplay before its full release. For players who enjoy similar atmospheric first-person dungeon crawlers, the developers suggest checking out Lunacid.
