Ubisoft has announced Rainbow 6 Tactics, a new single-player title set to launch in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Developed by Ubisoft Paris, the studio behind Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, the game aims to combine the tactical planning of Rainbow Six Siege with the turn-based combat mechanics found in titles like XCOM: Chimera Squad.
The game's missions are divided into distinct phases, mirroring the structure of Rainbow Six Siege. The initial phase involves using drones to scout enemy positions, identify hostage locations, and detect defensive setups. This intelligence then informs the breach planning phase, where players strategize operator placement and entry methods, such as breaching through windows or walls. Once the plan is executed, operators act simultaneously before transitioning into a more traditional turn-based combat system where players direct individual operators, utilizing cover and special abilities while relying on percentage-based hit chances.
A key innovation highlighted is the emphasis on environmental destructibility, a hallmark of Rainbow Six Siege. The pre-mission setup and breach phases are central to the gameplay, with a strong focus on ensuring a successful and synchronized assault from the outset. This approach aims to differentiate Rainbow 6 Tactics from many turn-based games where players often react to an already alerted enemy.
Players will step into the role of Paul Bishop, also known as Six, a character previously featured in Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. The game will feature 15 operators from Rainbow Six Siege, including iconic characters like Ash, Zofia, Nøkk, Glaz, Doc, Montagne, Sledge, Finka, and Twitch, with more fan favorites expected. The narrative is set to take place between Year 10 and Year 11 of Siege's ongoing timeline and will include dozens of handcrafted maps.
Ubisoft has stated that Rainbow 6 Tactics will not feature any in-game stores or monetization systems and will not be a live-service title. This approach marks a departure from typical Ubisoft releases, offering a complete single-player experience.
