Rainbow Six Siege Mobile to Shut Down Just Seven Months After Global Launch

Ubisoft has announced that Rainbow Six Mobile, the free-to-play mobile adaptation of its popular tactical shooter, will be shutting down on January 15, 2027. This decision comes only seven months after the game's global release in February 2026, marking another struggling live-service endeavor for the publisher.

The shutdown was confirmed on the game's official X account, with the statement noting that the next planned season will still be released next week. Rainbow Six Mobile had a lengthy development cycle, first announced in 2022 and undergoing various beta phases throughout 2023 and into 2024 before a staggered release, beginning in Latin America and eventually launching globally.

Despite achieving millions of downloads on iOS and Android devices, the game has reportedly failed to maintain a consistent player base. User reviews on platforms like the Google Play Store have cited a desire for gameplay closer to the console and PC versions, including more operator variety and strategic spawn choices instead of random assignments. The free-to-play monetization model also faced criticism for its perceived grindiness and for locking operators behind paywalls.

This closure follows a pattern of difficulties for Ubisoft's live-service initiatives, including mobile titles. Another spin-off, The Division Resurgence, has also seen a troubled rollout, with a recent PC port being met with negative reviews that describe it as buggy and repetitive.
