PlayStation has released further details regarding Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble, a mobile hero shooter based on Insomniac Games' popular franchise. Following a soft launch in select international markets, the game is preparing for a global release on iOS and Android devices.
Developed by Oh Bibi in collaboration with Insomniac, Ranger Rumble is a free-to-play multiplayer title set within a combat simulation created by Captain Qwark. This simulation serves as a training ground for new Galactic Ranger recruits. The game features a roster of 12 playable heroes, with plans for additional characters to be introduced post-launch. While familiar faces like Ratchet and Clank will appear, the roster primarily includes new characters such as Widget, an investigative journalist, and Mopz, a street gang member, alongside various robots and aliens, including Lombaxes from other dimensions.
The core gameplay loop of Ranger Rumble revolves around PvP arena battles, enhanced by "dynamic PvE elements." Players will form teams to compete using the series' characteristic inventive weaponry. At launch, the game will offer six distinct game modes designed to accommodate both player-versus-player and player-versus-environment experiences. These modes include variations on the battle royale format and a soccer-inspired contest.
Stanislas Dewavrin, CEO of Oh Bibi, emphasized the project's commitment to maintaining the series' core identity. "Staying true to the series has been at the heart of the project from day one," Dewavrin stated in a blog post. "The signature humor, beloved characters, and gloriously inventive weaponry that have defined Ratchet & Clank for over two decades are all here, reimagined for fast-paced battles built specifically for mobile, with new characters and weapons to discover."
While a release window for Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble's global launch has not yet been announced, players can currently pre-register on the game's official website to receive exclusive rewards.
