Rayman Legends Retold Adds Baguette Costumes in Nod to Expedition 33

Rayman Legends Retold is set to launch with new cosmetic outfits for Rayman and Barbara, featuring a distinctive French aesthetic. These new costumes are a direct homage to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, another game developed by a French studio, Sandfall Interactive, also headquartered in Montpellier.

Ubisoft described the outfits as "a playful nod to a fellow game," created as a tribute from one French studio to another. The costumes celebrate the creativity and "unmistakably French touch" of the country's video game industry. The Expedition 33-inspired ensemble includes a striped shirt, black trousers with suspenders, a red beret, and a baguette wrapped in a plaid cloth.

This particular outfit draws on historical French fashion elements, including 19th-century naval uniforms and traditional Basque headwear, as well as the attire of "Onion Johnnies," who were French door-to-door vegetable traders in Britain. These styles have become synonymous with French culture and have been adopted by notable figures such as Pablo Picasso and Jean Paul Gaultier. The costumes are also noted for being a popular and accessible choice for cosplay at conventions.

Players will need to defeat secret mime mini-bosses scattered throughout the game world to unlock these new outfits for Rayman and Barbara. Rayman Legends Retold is scheduled for release on December 3 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. This marks Ubisoft's second major remake of the year, following the July release of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.
