Alan Ritchson, the star of Amazon’s action series Reacher, has implied that a planned season adapting the second Jack Reacher novel, Die Trying, was canceled due to political reasons. The book features the titular character battling a white supremacist militia. Ritchson responded to a fan on Threads, stating that the season was approved until "someone got re-elected," which is widely understood to refer to Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
The series, based on Lee Child's novels, follows former military police major Jack Reacher as he travels the country and confronts criminal elements. Die Trying, published in 1998, sees Reacher and a woman kidnapped by a white supremacist group. While Prime Video has not officially commented on Ritchson's statement, the decision to shelve the storyline could stem from a desire to avoid controversy or backlash, particularly given Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos' past public statements supporting Trump.
Reacher has been renewed for a fifth season, which will adapt the twentieth novel, Make Me. A spin-off series focusing on the character Neagley premiered in September 2026. Ritchson has previously been outspoken about his political views, having publicly criticized Donald Trump and expressed support for Bernie Sanders. He is also reportedly in talks to star in a Helldivers film adaptation for Sony.
