A digital adaptation of the popular board game based on Pierce Brown's six-book science fiction saga, Red Rising, is slated for release in 2027. Developed by Canadian studio Emerald City Games, the new title aims to faithfully recreate the tabletop experience for PC and potentially other platforms.
The Red Rising saga, which originally spanned six novels, depicts a dystopian society on Mars structured by a rigid color-coded caste system. In this world, the lowest class, known as "Reds," are oppressed by the ruling "Golds." The story follows Darrow, a Red miner who becomes the focal point of a revolution.
In 2021, Jamey Stegmaier of Stonemaier Games adapted Brown's saga into a highly regarded board game. This tabletop version, which drew heavily from the first three novels, allowed players to manage cards and lead unique followers to ascend through the Martian social hierarchy. Emerald City Games is now bringing this adaptation to a digital format.
According to a statement from Emerald City Games, the digital version will adhere to the original tabletop rules while introducing enhanced visuals and gameplay conveniences. Players will manage a deck of cards representing followers from various color castes, including Golds and Reds, to vie for dominance within their chosen house. The developers promise a faithful recreation of the original board game's 112 unique cards and rules, enhanced with dynamic effects, animations, and custom voice lines.
The digital adaptation will also feature a challenging AI mode for solo play, alongside multiplayer support for up to six players across different platforms. A playable demo is currently available for download on Steam, offering an early look at the game. Further details regarding the 2027 release date have not yet been announced.
