A recent report has dampened expectations for a physical disc release of Grand Theft Auto 6, asserting that no such version is planned, neither at launch nor in the months that follow.
This contradicts an earlier claim from an insider who had previously stated that a physical edition with a disc would be available in December. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter and a source with knowledge of Rockstar Games' release plans, this information is inaccurate. The report clarifies that an email from Rockstar Support, which fueled hopes for a disc-based version, was misinterpreted. The support response, which stated, "You will be able to acquire a physical copy during the following months," was not an indication of a future physical release but rather a misunderstanding of the existing plans. "The language is being misinterpreted by a hopeful internet," the source told The Hollywood Reporter, emphasizing that there are still no plans for a physical release.
This news follows a busy week for Grand Theft Auto 6 announcements. Pre-orders for the game have gone live, revealing its price. Rumors about the potential absence of a disc in physical editions, with only a download code included, had previously sparked controversy among players concerned about second-hand sales and game ownership.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to release on November 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.
