The lavish Chinese action game Tides of Annihilation may have a new voice for its protagonist, Gwendolyn. Reports suggest that Angela Sant'Albano, known for her role as Grace Ashcroft in Resident Evil Requiem, is set to replace Jennifer English, who recently withdrew from the project.

While not officially confirmed, speculation arose after a recent gameplay demo shown in China featured a different visual presentation for Gwendolyn and a new voice performance. Viewers commenting on the video identified Sant'Albano as the likely replacement. This suspicion was further bolstered when Gwendolyn's motion-capture performer, Jennifer Prime, responded to a comment suggesting the voice was Sant'Albano by saying, "Yep!!! But this time, no more screaming 'LEON!!!!'" Prime has since stood by her statement.

Jennifer English, recognized for her performances as Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3, departed Tides of Annihilation in June due to personal health reasons. The game's social media accounts stated that English would continue to support the project in an advisory capacity and assist in finding suitable replacements for the role of Gwendolyn.

English herself has not publicly commented on her departure from the project. Her recent public activity includes an appearance in Critical Role's Daggerheart mini-series, Age of Umbra: Shadowlands, which concluded last week.

Tides of Annihilation, which draws inspiration from films like Inception and The Matrix, reimagines Arthurian legend in a modern-day London setting. The game is described as featuring large-scale combat reminiscent of the Bayonetta series. It is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X, with no confirmed release date. The game is slated to be playable at Gamescom next week.
