Resident Evil Requiem may be receiving DLC content that delves deeper into the character arc of Oswald E. Spencer. Screenwriter Haris Orkin shared this possibility in a recent interview at Meadowlark Comic Con, indicating that plans are in motion to flesh out the villainous figure.
Orkin stated that he is currently working on DLC for Resident Evil Requiem. He elaborated on Spencer's portrayal in the game, noting a shift from a "maniacal mastermind" to a "redemptive figure filled with regret." The upcoming DLC is expected to provide a more thorough exploration of this character transformation.
"We have an arc for Spencer in Requiem," Orkin said during the interview. "Where you understand [that approach] more. And then in the DLC you will understand it even further. I probably shouldn’t say that, but yeah."
Previously, the game's director, Koshi Nakanishi, confirmed that a major story expansion was in development for Resident Evil Requiem. It is presumed that the DLC Orkin is referencing is this planned expansion.
Orkin also discussed his writing process for characters, explaining that his villains often believe they are the protagonists of their own narratives. He also shared insights into the creation of Grace, an FBI analyst with limited field experience, whom he decided to portray as being on the autism spectrum, excelling at clue analysis but struggling with social interaction.
Resident Evil Requiem was released in February and received critical acclaim, achieving an 89 Metascore on Metacritic and a 9/10 from IGN. The game has also achieved significant commercial success, selling over 7 million copies by April, with 5 million units sold within its first five days of release.
