The upcoming Riftbound set, Radiance, will introduce a variety of collectible cards, including rare showcase variants inspired by Riot Games' music acts. These include Overnumbered Heartsteel cards, SP K/DA cards, and an Overnumbered Ekko card featuring his True Damage skin. Executive Producer Chengran Chai stated that the Riftbound team aimed to align with Riot's broader music initiatives.
The design process for these music-themed cards required close coordination, as many card details needed finalization before the songs and character designs were fully complete. "We knew Riot as a whole would have a music moment towards the end of the year, so very early on, we said we would lean into that," Chai explained. Consequently, the cards reflect the K/DA All Out and Heartsteel 1.0 versions because the 2.0 iterations were not yet finalized during development. This approach allowed Riftbound to participate in and benefit from the wider music moments to reach more fans.
Collaboration extended beyond internal planning, with the Riot Music Team initiating an easter egg by asking if the Riftbound cards could be featured in the Heartsteel music video "Live My Life." Additionally, Riftbound has been incorporated into other Riot-wide moments, such as an easter egg in Valorant's Aeris Flex cosmetic.
The Heartsteel Overnumbered cards feature a design inspired by K-pop photocards, incorporating vibrant motifs and Y2K elements. Notably, the "signed" versions of these cards feature autographs from the characters themselves, a departure from the usual practice of featuring artist signatures on other Signature cards. These design choices were discussed during a Radiance panel at the Riftbound Regional Qualifier in Los Angeles.
Radiance also introduces the set's rarest card, the Ultimate Rare Battlefield: Packed Amphitheater. This card has an approximate pull rate of 0.025%, or 1 in 4,000 packs, making it significantly rarer than the 0.1% pull rate of the Ultimate Rare Baron Nasher from the Unleashed set. The set includes other chase cards beyond the music crossovers, such as the Overnumbered Mordekaiser Legend card.
Radiance Pre-Rifts are scheduled to begin at local game stores on October 16, with booster boxes, packs, and vaults available for purchase on October 23. While Radiance's complexity may present a steeper learning curve for new players, it offers increased variety and creativity for existing Riftbound enthusiasts. The game's community is noted for its welcoming and helpful nature.
