These runes, previously seen on promotional coffee bags for 'Avengers: Doomsday' distributed at SXSW London, provided the key to understanding the hidden messages.
According to Popverse's Grant DeArmitt, the translation process involved a direct, one-to-one replacement of English letters with the runic symbols. However, some phonetic variations, such as the runes for "coffee" being written as "kavi," required a degree of logical deduction. Despite these nuances, much of the text has been successfully translated.
Sections of the runes clearly read "THERE IS NO PROMISE OF TOMORRO," with the apparent omission of a letter in "tomorrow" being a characteristic of the Latverian script. Other inscriptions on Downey Jr.'s jacket translate to "JUSTICE" and "REVENGE." Additionally, phrases like "TO THE VICTOR"—a nod to the villain Doctor Doom—and "GO THE SPOILS" were also uncovered.
A portion of the runic message remains undeciphered, as only a fragment was visible on the actor's attire. Nonetheless, the translated portions offer thematic hints of vengeance and impending conflict, aligning with the known villainous nature of Doctor Doom.
'Avengers: Doomsday' is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. The film's official synopsis states that "Universes collide and the Multiverse Saga begins its final chapter in Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday." It further describes that "Beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and ultimately face an existential threat unlike anything they've ever encountered."
This revelation follows Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige's comments regarding the company's long-term movie plans, which extend to 2042 and include a streamlined universe post-'Avengers: Secret Wars,' an increased focus on the X-Men, and the eventual introduction of a live-action Miles Morales.
