Robert Pattinson has expressed skepticism about the possibility of his Batman character crossing over with James Gunn's iteration of Superman, citing fundamental tonal differences between their respective universes.
Pattinson stated in an interview with LADbible that he finds it challenging to envision his version of Bruce Wayne existing outside of his current, darker world. He described the experience of embodying his Batman as immersive, noting that the prolonged periods spent in darkness, both literally and metaphorically, can affect an actor. "It does affect you, like you feel strange afterwards," he remarked.
While some fans have speculated about Pattinson's Batman joining Gunn's main DC Universe, the actor seems to favor his character remaining within his own corner of the multiverse. Gunn has previously announced plans for a Batman film focusing on an older Bruce Wayne with Damian Wayne as his sidekick. The development of this film has seen few updates, and it remains unclear if DC will integrate Pattinson's Batman into the wider DCU or maintain separate storylines to avoid audience confusion.
Despite the tonal disparity between "The Batman" and Gunn's "Superman," the current DCU has demonstrated an ability to accommodate varied narratives. Projects like "Lanterns" are expected to explore more grounded and mature themes, while an R-rated body horror film, "Clayface," is also set within the same universe as "Superman," "Lanterns," and "Supergirl." This suggests there is narrative space for diverse tones, and some believe the contrast between Pattinson's grim Batman and David Corenswet's Superman could offer a compelling "World's Finest" dynamic.
However, based on Pattinson's comments, a crossover is unlikely in the near future. "The Batman Part 2" is scheduled for release on February 18, 2027, with the Superman sequel, "Man of Tomorrow," set to debut on July 9, 2027.
