Robert Pattinson Praises Steven Soderbergh's 'Selfless' Approach to The Batman Part 2

Robert Pattinson has confirmed that production has resumed on The Batman Part 2, with filmmaker Steven Soderbergh now involved in completing the project. Pattinson described Soderbergh's contribution as "completely selfless," expressing gratitude for his assistance. Filming is set to restart imminently, with Pattinson scheduled to return to set in the coming days.

Soderbergh, known for films like Ocean's Eleven and Magic Mike, has taken on directorial duties to help finish the sequel after original director Matt Reeves stepped away due to a family matter. Pattinson stated his happiness with Soderbergh's involvement, emphasizing that the director's aim is to faithfully complete Reeves and Pattinson's original vision. Soderbergh himself commented on the project, calling Reeves' work on The Batman "stunning, it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent."

Following initial reports that production had halted, fans expressed concerns about the future of The Batman Part 2, especially given previous delays and ongoing shifts within DC's film slate, including James Gunn's new DC Universe which operates independently of Reeves' continuity. However, both Pattinson and DC had assured that the film would be released. With production now back on track, the sequel is expected to meet its planned release date of February 18, 2028.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, Reeves has consistently referred to his Batman films and the related The Penguin series as an "Epic Crime Saga." This suggests a continued focus on the darker, crime-ridden underbelly of Gotham City rather than a departure into more fantastical villains. Evidence from production photos points towards the potential involvement of the Court of Owls and the character Anarky, hinting at a narrative that explores Gotham's wealth inequality and the complex position of Bruce Wayne within that dynamic.

Returning cast members include Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell reprising his role as the Penguin. Barry Keoghan is also expected to return as the Joker. New additions to the cast reportedly include Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent, Scarlett Johansson as Gilda Dent, and Charles Dance potentially as Harvey's father.
