A new RoboCop television series has been officially confirmed for Prime Video. Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Atomic Monster announced the eight-episode run, which will see the return of the iconic cyborg law enforcer. Ed Neumeier, one of the original franchise's co-creators, is set to executive produce the series.

Peter Ocko, known for his work on Lodge 49 and Pushing Daisies, will serve as showrunner and writer, in addition to executive producing. James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett are also executive producing for Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Wan is reportedly directing key episodes, with filming slated to commence in 2027.

The new series, simply titled RoboCop, will focus on a powerful tech conglomerate that persuades a city to integrate a robot police officer into its force. This robot will be implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer. According to statements from the producers, the show aims to delve into the original RoboCop's core themes: unchecked corporate power and the ramifications of rapid technological advancement. James Wan expressed his long-standing admiration for the franchise, stating the intention to honor the spirit of the 1987 film while creating something fresh and relevant for today's world. Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the franchise's enduring relevance as a reflection of society's relationship with technology and power.

Reports indicate the series will star a soldier-turned-cyborg named Mark Kyle. While the original 1987 film, directed by Paul Verhoeven, was a satirical critique of capitalism and corporate greed, its success spawned multiple sequels, television shows, and video games. A 2014 remake received mixed reviews, and a previous attempt at a new film, RoboCop Returns, did not materialize. The new Prime Video series does not yet have a release date.
