Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will not feature microtransactions or generative artificial intelligence at its launch. This clarification was provided during a discussion with Kinda Funny Games prior to the release of the GTA 6 Extended Look trailer.

When asked directly about in-game purchases, Rockstar stated there are "no monetisations in this game." Furthermore, a follow-up question regarding the use of generative AI in development received a similar definitive answer: "no AI" has been incorporated into the game's creation.

This stance from Rockstar comes as Take-Two Interactive, the parent company, reportedly dissolved its AI division earlier this year. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously expressed skepticism about AI's creative capabilities, distinguishing the company's approach from a broader industry trend where numerous studios are embracing AI tools, sometimes at the expense of human roles like translators and artists.

Despite the absence of microtransactions for core gameplay elements, Grand Theft Auto VI's Ultimate Edition will include gated content. This premium version, priced at £90, offers exclusive cosmetics, vehicles, and access to certain shops and services, such as the Electric Fang tattoo parlour and the Stock 305 clothing store, which are not available to standard edition owners. Rockstar's support page indicates that owners of the standard edition will have the option to purchase the Ultimate Edition upgrade separately after redeeming their game. The bonus content is designed to be integrated throughout the narrative, unlocking chapter by chapter as players progress through the story of protagonists Jason and Lucia.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Recent reveals have detailed significant changes to the game's systems, including its Wanted system, carjacking mechanics, romance options, the scope of its game world, and a variety of available in-game activities.
