Rockstar Games is reportedly dealing with internal frustration and anger following a significant leak of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay footage. This incident marks the second major leak for the highly anticipated title, with unauthorized video clips of the unfinished game surfacing online. The game's publisher, Take-Two Interactive, has initiated legal proceedings, seeking to identify the individual behind the leaks, known by the persona "Cyberleek."
Take-Two has filed a petition in federal court under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, alleging copyright infringement. To aid in its investigation, the company is attempting to subpoena information from Microsoft and Discord. This legal action lends official legitimacy to the nature of the leaks.
Sources indicate that Rockstar employees and management are experiencing significant frustration and exhaustion due to the repeated security breaches. The measures implemented after the previous 2022 leak, including the discontinuation of remote work, have apparently failed to prevent the current unauthorized release of game data. One of the game's senior executives reportedly sent an email to staff acknowledging the incident and reassuring them that it would not diminish the value of their work.
Despite the setback, Rockstar Games and Netflix are scheduled to present an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI on Thursday, August 27. This preview event, which will premiere on Netflix and later be available on YouTube, is expected to showcase the game in its intended light.
Grand Theft Auto VI is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on November 19.
