Rockstar Games has maintained a conspicuous silence across all its online platforms for the past 48 hours as leaked gameplay footage of Grand Theft Auto 6 continues to surface online. The developer has not posted any updates on its official Twitter account, Instagram, or Discord server since Tuesday. The studio's official website has also not seen any updates to its Newswire section since August 14.
This period of inactivity is particularly notable as Rockstar Games typically posts content on its Twitter account around 10 a.m. EST on Tuesdays. These posts usually concern updates for Red Dead Online or Grand Theft Auto Online, but the consistent pattern has been broken following the extensive GTA 6 leaks. The last active post from the Rockstar Games Twitter account, dated August 18, discussed bonus cash and XP in Red Dead Online.
Kotaku has attempted to reach Rockstar Games for comment on the situation but has not yet received a response. The silence is likely a strategic decision as the company and its parent, Take-Two Interactive, deal with the fallout from the leaks, which were reportedly initiated by a user or group known as Cyberleek. Cyberleek has continued to release further clips and has even taunted Rockstar by including footage of a character discussing their untraceability due to VPN usage.
While the leaks represent a significant breach for Rockstar, the studio is also in the crucial pre-launch phase for Grand Theft Auto 6, which is widely anticipated. It remains to be seen when Rockstar will resume communication with its fanbase and what form its first official statement following the leaks will take.
