Grand Theft Auto 6's marketing efforts are reaching an unprecedented scale, spanning "virtually every social media outlet on Earth," according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. This broad promotional strategy was discussed during a recent Take-Two earnings call on August 7.
Zelnick emphasized the significance of a new, exclusive partnership with Netflix, which will host an extended look at the game. This marks a first-of-its-kind arrangement, granting Netflix a six-hour exclusivity window for the reveal. He described Netflix as a "great marketing partner" and a "close partner of the company," adding that the collaboration was "groundbreaking" and arranged by Rockstar.
While Zelnick expressed excitement about the forthcoming reveal, he declined to disclose specific terms of the Netflix deal. The announcement has, however, sparked discussions and some concerns. Questions have been raised regarding Netflix's infrastructure capacity to handle the anticipated server load during the trailer's premiere. Additionally, there are worries about the potential for the exclusive content to be quickly leaked and re-uploaded across other platforms, as well as broader sentiment that major game trailers should not be subject to paywalling.
