Rockstar's 'Pyramid on Everest' Analogy for GTA 6 Expectations

Rockstar North's head of development, Aaron Garbut, has likened the task of meeting expectations for Grand Theft Auto 6 to building "a pyramid on Everest." The sentiment, shared in an interview with Edge magazine, underscores the immense pressure on the studio to deliver a follow-up to one of the most popular game series in history, especially after a 13-year development cycle. "We can't just trot out something that's what people might expect, or that was the easy thing to do," Garbut stated. "We've not compromised on the scale, the detail, the interactivity, the story, the open world."

Garbut's description suggests that GTA 6 will aim to replicate and expand upon the systemic details that characterized Red Dead Redemption 2. That game integrated elements such as eating, drinking, grooming, and camping, which, while not always crucial for mission progression, added a layer of life simulation to the open world. The implication is that Grand Theft Auto 6 will incorporate similar minor, humanizing actions that players will engage with frequently.

While there is no official PC release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, rumors suggest that the wait may be shorter than the typical interval Rockstar has observed for previous PC ports, which have historically ranged from seven months to over a year and a half, as was the case with Grand Theft Auto 5.
