Rockstar "Union Busting" Tribunal Extended to November 17-18, Days Before GTA 6 Launch

The employment tribunal between the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) and Grand Theft Auto 6 developer Rockstar Games has been extended into November. The legal case, which centers on allegations of union busting, was originally slated to conclude this Friday but will now feature closing arguments on November 17th and 18th. This timing places the tribunal's conclusion just days before the release of Rockstar's next major title, Grand Theft Auto 6.

According to reports, the extension grants additional time for legal teams to cross-examine current and former Rockstar staff. While the IWGB is concluding its questioning of Rockstar leadership this week, Rockstar's legal team will have further opportunity to question the employees who were fired.

At the core of the dispute is the reason behind the dismissal of over 30 staff members in late 2025. Rockstar maintains the employees were let go due to "gross misconduct," citing concerns over an unsecure Discord server used for unionization efforts where confidential information was allegedly shared. The IWGB and the affected employees dispute this, asserting that the firings were an attempt by Rockstar to prevent the formation of a union. Evidence presented during the tribunal revealed that a junior employee had been providing information from the unionization Discord server to Rockstar's HR director for over two and a half years, including details about the union reaching a statutory membership threshold for legal recognition. The employees were dismissed less than two weeks later.

In the year since the staff were laid off, workers have successfully organized enough members to form a union with the IWGB. The judge is expected to deliver a ruling after the closing arguments are made in November, determining whether Rockstar Games unlawfully interfered with the employees' right to organize.
