Tencent's Morefun Studios has launched a closed beta test for its new free-to-play creature-collecting game, Roco Kingdom. Players step into the vibrant world of Carosia as a Roco, a mage tasked with collecting magical creatures known as Jinies. The game aims to offer a vast collection of these creatures, with 212 unique Jinies available during the beta and plans for hundreds more upon full release.
Diverse Jinies and Customization
The Jinies in Roco Kingdom are distinguished by more than just appearance. Each creature possesses unique talents, personality types, physical attributes like height and weight, and specialized abilities. For instance, two Jinies of the same species, like Bluffa the bear, might have different personalities, with one exhibiting a stubborn nature that enhances physical attack, while another might have a cheerful disposition. Specialities such as 'Shared Ride,' allowing players to traverse Carosia on a Jini's back, or 'Sharer,' which can grant bonus drops, add to the gameplay depth. Visual customization is also a key feature, with Jinies having Chromatic variants that alter their color schemes. Players can use Prism Pods to create unique gradient colorations with glittery effects. Further physical variations exist, offering distinct forms for certain Jinies, like a chonkier or sleeker Duckiji. The rarest and most powerful forms are Alpha Jinies, achieved through hatching from Alpha boss eggs or using an Alpha Bloodline Elixir, which evolve Jinies into an impressive Alpha Form.
Collection Mechanics and Challenges
Collecting Jinies involves using specialized pods, each offering different buffs and effectiveness against various Jini classes. A Solar Pod is recommended for Flora and Light Jinies, while a Prism Pod imbues a Jini with Prismatic qualities, and a Net Pod is suited for Water and Wing classes. Players can encounter and battle 'Blossoms' in the world to capture specific Jinies, with opportunities to team up with up to four players to tackle high-level Jinies, including rare Chromatic and Prismatic variants. The game also features weekly PvE challenges, including legendary boss battles. Notable bosses include Winged King, a powerful flying horse, and Parlyth, a formidable mystical dog. Defeating these bosses rewards players with Jinies and other in-game items.
Roco Kingdom is positioned to enter the creature-collecting genre as a significant new entry. The game is available to wishlist on Steam.
