Legendary adventure game designer Ron Gilbert has announced Thimbleweed Park 2, a sequel to his 2017 pixel-art point-and-click adventure game. The original title featured two Mulder and Scully-like characters, alongside a cast of other playable heroes, tasked with solving a murder mystery through hundreds of puzzles.

Development is underway for PC, Mac, and Linux, with a planned release in early 2028. Gilbert shared the news on his GrumpyGamer blog, stating, "First the good news. The good news is that we just started production on Thimbleweed Park 2, due out in early 2028." He also confirmed that the team behind the original game, including Mark Ferrari, Gary Winnick, David Fox, Octavi Navarro, and Robert Megone, will return for the sequel. The game will be self-published with the assistance of a private investor.

Gilbert invited fans to wishlist the sequel on Steam. He humorously added, "Now the bad news. There is no bad news, it’s all good news."

Thimbleweed Park originally received critical praise, with IGN awarding it an 8.5 out of 10 for its pixel art and puzzles. Gilbert has recently been involved with the Monkey Island series, returning to create Return to Monkey Island in 2022. That project was a surprise follow-up that IGN reviewer gave a 9 out of 10, calling it a near-perfect conclusion to Guybrush Threepwood's story.
