RuneScape has launched a substantial update centered on player-owned housing, introducing a revamped build mode and a new neighborhood system. This update aims to enhance the customization and social aspects of in-game housing, drawing parallels to the creative freedom offered by games like The Sims.

The new build mode allows players to freely combine different room layouts, creating unique structures by connecting prefab rooms. Decoration options have also been expanded, with over 650 items available for players to furnish their homes. The update integrates crafting into home decoration, with new recipes unlockable through quests and other in-game activities, alongside an expansion of the construction skill to level 120.

Players can now equip their homes with functional items such as potion cauldrons, gilded altars, combat training devices, and storage solutions. The ability to display achievements is also enhanced, allowing players to showcase trophies, boss drops, and archaeological finds within their homes.

A key feature of the update is the new Homestead system, which enables players to establish a shared home on a larger plot of land with up to four other players. This system fosters a communal living experience, where neighbors can utilize each other's facilities, such as specialized crafting stations or training areas, reflecting a more collaborative online social dynamic. The update is live in RuneScape now.
