Developer Facepunch Studios has made significant alterations to the 2026 roadmap for its long-running survival game, Rust. The changes, implemented through a recent stealth update, include the removal of a planned Battle Pass and the delay of several other anticipated features into 2027.

Previously slated for a third-quarter 2026 release, the Battle Pass has been entirely removed from the roadmap. Facepunch has opted to prioritize monument improvements and a rework of the clan system instead. In its place, the developer has introduced "Rust Premium." This new status is granted to players who own inventory items valued at over $15 and provides access to Rust Premium servers, which are intended to have fewer cheaters due to players having less empty inventories. The future expansion of Rust Premium's features remains unclear.

Several other features have been pushed back to 2027, including procedural caves, the nexus system, the nomadic dweller, improved underground terrain, the grappling hook, and terrain deformation. However, the animal husbandry update is still expected before the end of 2026, alongside player customization, the bug reward system, and biofuel generators. In a surprise move, pet dogs have been elevated from a stretch goal to a feature expected in 2026.

These adjustments to the roadmap indicate continued development for Rust, which has remained a popular title eight years after its early access launch. The developers are introducing new content to maintain player engagement through regular monthly wipes. Further details on the roadmap changes and the upcoming September force wipe may be provided in an upcoming blog post.
