Rust's August force wipe has arrived alongside the "Power Trip" update, fundamentally altering player strategies by introducing new mechanics for monument control and electricity. The update also coincides with the release of the "Bar Games" DLC and a "Stone Sculpture" item.
The "Power Trip" update focuses on making power and crude oil more accessible while simultaneously increasing the importance of controlling key monuments. Players who secure dominance over locations like the Dome, Water Treatment Plant, Airfield, Launch Site, and Power Plant will gain significant advantages throughout the monthly wipe.
Monument Overhauls
The Power Plant now requires Heavy Fuses to activate its electricity grid, which can then power various systems across the island. Once powered, Green Recyclers operate at 60 percent efficiency, and Red Recyclers become available at 75 percent efficiency. At the Launch Site, players can use an Aiming Module with a computer terminal to call down a satellite filled with loot. Elsewhere, powering the Power Plant enables crude oil extraction at the Dome via a Tanker vehicle, particularly when linked with switches at the Small or Large Oil Rigs. The Water Treatment Plant also requires the Power Plant to be active; players can then place gears into two designated boxes to restore water flow, filling pipes along the roads. Finally, the Airfield can be influenced by the Power Plant's active status, allowing players to increase airdrop rates or summon a Chinook helicopter.
Beyond these major monument changes, supplying power to the Power Plant offers additional perks. Players can activate freezers at the Supermarket for safe food storage and draw electricity from powerline poles with transformers.
New DLC and Content
The "Bar Games" DLC, now available, introduces a variety of minigames for players to enjoy with friends. These include pool, darts, and tic-tac-toe, all accessible through the use of a jukebox. Complementing this is the "Stone Sculpture" item, which allows players to edit blocks of stone with their cursor to create custom designs.
While the update has been met with excitement, some members of the Rust community have expressed concerns that the changes may favor larger groups and clans over solo players. However, the developers encourage all players to engage with the new wipe, suggesting that strategic play could still allow solo players to find an advantage, especially by capitalizing on the new electricity mechanics after Heavy Fuses have been utilized to power the Power Plant.
