Marvel has released a fleeting five-second clip offering the first glimpse of Sadie Sink in the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The short teaser, however, has left fans analyzing every detail to decipher her character's role and dialogue.
The clip shows Sink delivering a single line before censor bars and audio bleeps obscure the rest. She is heard saying, "What would you do if…" This minimal dialogue, combined with Sink's dark hair and green eyes, has fueled fan theories about her identity.
The prevailing fan theory suggests Sink is portraying Jean Grey from the X-Men. One Reddit user speculated her full line might be, "What would you do if I could help your friends remember who you are?" referencing Peter Parker's memory.
Other theories propose alternative lines, such as an X/Twitter user suggesting, "What would you do if everybody who ever said they loved you rejected you because you have powers." Another fan commented on Reddit, "I bet she’s asking Peter about restoring Ned and Mj’s memories."
Further fueling speculation, some viewers noted that Sink's mouth appears not to move during her line, leading to suggestions she might be communicating telepathically. This observation has been interpreted as a potential nod to Jean Grey's psychic abilities.
Despite the rampant speculation, Marvel has not confirmed Sink's character. Star Tom Holland has previously denied the presence of X-Men characters in the film, while director Destin Daniel Cretton has stated there is a "very real reason" for the secrecy surrounding her identity.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to release in theaters on Friday, July 31.
