Months of speculation surrounding Sadie Sink's role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day may have come to an abrupt end. While Sink has remained tight-lipped about her character throughout the film's press tour, comments made by R&B artist Steve Lacy at the movie's Los Angeles premiere have potentially revealed the secret.

Lacy, whose song "oh yeah?" is featured in Brand New Day, was present at the premiere and, when asked by interviewers which character he was most excited to see, he reportedly stated, "Jean. I like Jean. She’s the villain, but there’s a reason to her madness." This statement, captured on video and circulating online, suggests that Sink is portraying Jean Grey, a prominent telepathic mutant character from the X-Men.

This apparent reveal occurs just ahead of the film's theatrical release on July 31. The rumor that Sink would be playing Jean Grey has been circulating online for some time. If accurate, this casting could signal Marvel Studios' intention to introduce new iterations of X-Men characters prior to or following the major crossover events depicted in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Early reactions to Sink's performance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day have been largely positive. Reviewers have praised her character work, with one noting that she is "easily the newest and greatest star of the MCU" and that her character has "the most thought provoking character work ever put in a Marvel Studios flick." Another critic described Sink as "some of the most inspired MCU casting, maybe since Tom Holland himself."

Fans will be able to confirm Jean Grey's MCU debut and assess Sink's performance when Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters later this week.
