The identity of Sadie Sink's character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being deliberately kept under wraps until the film's theatrical debut on July 31, according to director Destin Daniel Cretton. He stated there is a "very real reason" for the secrecy, which he believes will ultimately be well-received by audiences.

Sink has been noticeably absent from most promotional materials for the film. While speculation online heavily suggests she is portraying Jean Grey, Sink herself has only confirmed that she is not playing Spider-Man or Aunt May. Cretton acknowledged that while he cannot control potential audience frustration, he expressed confidence that the reveal will be worth the wait. "You'll see when you watch the movie that there's a very real reason not to tell people who Sadie Sink is playing," Cretton told Rolling Stone. "And I don’t think you'll get mad at it. I think you'll be like, 'Oh, I'm glad I didn't know that.'"

Reports indicate that Sink is slated to appear in the 2027 film Avengers: Secret Wars, suggesting a larger role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This potential introduction of Jean Grey could serve as a precursor to Marvel's planned X-Men reboot. Sink described the secrecy surrounding her role as "torture" during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

In separate comments, Cretton confirmed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will open with a montage depicting Spider-Man addressing the lingering issues in New York City over the four years since the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. He also touched on Tom Holland's recent comment that the film's title would only gain full significance in its final moments, with Cretton agreeing that the title reflects the character's ultimate destination and the film's central theme of seeking a "brand-new day."

Regarding the potential for a Shang-Chi sequel, Cretton expressed enthusiasm, stating he is in discussions with writer Dave Callaham about the project.
