Dropout CEO Sam Reich will not be the sole host of the upcoming fifth season of the comedy show Make Some Noise. For the first time in the show's history, guest hosts Demi Adejuyigbe, Elaine Carroll, and Kurt Maloney will take turns in the host's chair.
Reich, who has hosted both Make Some Noise and the similarly formatted Game Changer, stated that this change is not necessarily a sign of him stepping away from the show entirely. He suggested that the guest host format could serve as a "backdoor audition for a new host at some point." This move is intended to "vary up the dynamic some" by bringing in "fresh blood."
While Make Some Noise has previously featured guest performers, the introduction of guest hosts represents a new dynamic. Reich admitted that he finds it more comfortable to "watch other people do the work than it is for me to do the work." He also humorously suggested that his hosting duties on shows like Game Changer have "unlocked" his "humiliation kink," referencing an instance where he encouraged contestants to freestyle diss tracks about him.
Reich also detailed his process for pairing comedians on the show. Sometimes, pairings are based on existing group dynamics, such as when Angela Giarratana, Kylie Brakeman, and Jeremy Culhane will appear together, as they have a podcast. In other instances, the pairings are as simple as asking participants who they wish to collaborate with, or as Reich put it, "because they all roast me to shreds."
Season 5 of Make Some Noise will feature 15 episodes with a mix of familiar and new faces, including Siobhan Thompson and Ben Schwartz. Reich expressed gratitude for the cast's eagerness to "play with each other no matter what."
Make Some Noise season 5 premieres on Dropout.tv on October 5, with new episodes streaming every other Monday.
