Housemarque's acclaimed sci-fi shooter Saros has received a significant free update titled Zenith, which introduces a challenging new game mode and a suite of options for players to tailor the game's difficulty. The update is available now for PlayStation 5 owners.
The centerpiece of the Zenith update is "Overlord Rush," a dedicated boss rush mode that challenges players to defeat a series of the game's formidable bosses. This mode features its own leaderboards for competitive play. Rather than a continuous gauntlet, the boss encounters are divided into distinct "sets," each comprising three fights. Players can access Overlord Rush by interacting with the Primary robot located in the game's main hub area.
Beyond the new mode, the Zenith update also expands the game's existing difficulty modifiers and introduces new settings. The "Slow Game Speed" option allows players to reduce the overall game speed, providing more time to react to enemy projectiles. This setting is adjustable, with options to control the degree of slowdown and even enable it automatically when combat begins. An "Auto-fire" setting is also included, which can assist players by eliminating the need for manual trigger pulls when aiming, allowing for greater focus on evasion.
Saros originally launched with Carcosan Modifiers, which offered players the ability to increase or decrease the game's challenge, even allowing for a mix of difficulty adjustments across different game sections. The Zenith update adds numerous new modifiers to this system. Among the new Protection modifiers is "Corruption Melee Enhancement," which increases the power of melee attacks when the player acquires Corruption, a status typically detrimental.
New Trial Modifiers are designed to further increase the game's challenge. When combined with the already challenging endgame Eclipse Layers, these modifiers provide a steep difficulty curve for veteran players seeking to test their skills. Saros is available exclusively on the PlayStation 5.
