Scary Horror FPS Divine Frequency Finally Launches October 27 After Writer's Death and Technical Hurdles

Despite the tragic death of its lead writer and a drawn-out development process plagued by technical issues, the horror FPS-RPG Divine Frequency is finally set to launch its early access version on October 27. Developer Abraxaes announced the release date alongside a new trailer, confirming that the game will launch with approximately 70% of its planned content, encompassing the first two of three planned acts.

Development Challenges

Divine Frequency's journey has been fraught with difficulty. In March, Abraxaes outlined some of the significant hurdles the team has overcome. The most profound challenge was the unexpected death of lead writer Pablo "Artistical" Lamprea on April 1st, 2025. His passing deeply affected the team, and Lamprea was described as the "fuel" behind the game's creative vision, responsible for extensive world-building, lore, and in-game dialogue.

"We would remain in contact regularly to discuss many aspects of the game world," Abraxaes stated. "We've had many long hour calls discussing, brainstorming and crafting the world that you'll be experiencing soon. Anytime I wasn't sure of a design choice I made, I knew I could always rely on him for consultation." The loss left the second act of the game without its primary writer, a task the team has had to navigate without their key collaborator.

Adding to these difficulties, a later development revealed that several sound libraries purchased by the developers contained copyrighted material. This necessitated a painstaking process of auditing and replacing all infringing audio files, which further delayed the project. "This also delayed the game by a fair margin," Abraxaes noted.

A Polished Early Access Launch

Despite these setbacks, Abraxaes emphasized their commitment to a high-quality launch. "You only get one chance to launch a game," the developers stated in their March update, "and this needs to be pristine on launch." The content planned for early access represents a substantial portion of the complete game, offering players a significant experience from the outset.

The game's demo previously impressed with its blend of cosmic horror and descriptive writing, creating a uniquely unsettling atmosphere. The writing was noted for its juxtaposition of formal, SCP-style categorization with elaborate prose, effectively capturing the mystery of the unknown. This distinctive tone has left a lasting impression, building anticipation for the full release.

Players can wishlist Divine Frequency and try its updated demo on Steam. The early access launch is scheduled for October 27.
