Production has officially concluded in Atlanta for Netflix's forthcoming series, "Scooby-Doo: Origins," the streaming service announced Sunday. Alongside the production wrap, Netflix also shared a new photograph featuring the live-action portrayal of the beloved canine detective.
This series marks a significant first for the franchise, as "Scooby-Doo: Origins" will feature a real Great Dane in the role of the titular character, a departure from previous animated and live-action adaptations.
The official synopsis details that the story follows "old friends Shaggy and Daphne" during their final summer at camp. They become entangled in a mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural event. Aided by the scientifically-minded Velma and the newcomer Fred, the group sets out to solve the case, which threatens to uncover their individual secrets.
Mckenna Grace is set to star as Daphne Blake, with Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers. Abby Ryder Fortson will portray Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins will play Fred Jones. The series also features a supporting cast including Paul Walter Hauser, Rusty Schwimmer, Peter Macon, Jona Xiao, Dani Deetté, Elysée Sanvillé, Alex Isles, Avery Kristen Pohl, Pamela Mitchell, Ross Kimball, Sara Gilbert, Wynn Everett, Sauriyan Sapkota, Bruce McGill, André Benjamin, and Cathy Moriarity.
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are serving as executive producers and showrunners for the series. Additional executive producers include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Adrienne Erickson, and Toby Haynes, who also directed the first episode.
"Scooby-Doo: Origins" is slated for a global release in 2027.
