Bryan Lee O'Malley, the creator of the beloved Scott Pilgrim saga, is returning to the series for the first new comic in 16 years. Oni Press announced the upcoming one-shot comic, titled Scott Pilgrim EX: Dawn of Metal Scott, at Comic-Con. This new installment serves as a prequel to the recently released beat-em-up game Scott Pilgrim EX, and by extension, a sequel to the animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
The official description positions Scott Pilgrim EX: Dawn of Metal Scott as a story set after Scott and Ramona have settled into a happy relationship and the Seven Evil Exes have moved on. However, a new threat is on the horizon, testing whether the heroes are ready to face it. O'Malley expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the Scott Pilgrim universe, stating, "Returning to Scott’s Toronto really did feel like coming home." The comic is scheduled for release on November 15.
The Scott Pilgrim EX beat-'em-up game has been met with praise for its gameplay depth and replayability, building on its predecessors. IGN's review noted that the game, like the Scott Pilgrim series itself, grapples with the passage of time, acknowledging how modern titles refine ideas from earlier games and that what was once new is now referenced. The review concluded that Scott Pilgrim EX offers a fun experience that appreciates its past while enjoying the present.
