Xbox's disc-to-digital feature, now available to Insiders as part of its testing phase, has expanded its publisher support with the addition of Sega. This move increases the number of physical games that can be converted into digital licenses associated with a user's account.
The program allows players to digitize their owned physical game discs, granting them ongoing access to the titles digitally. Since its August 31st launch for Insiders, the feature has been receiving community feedback for further refinement before a wider public release. Early benefits included support for delisted games, making previously inaccessible digital versions available.
Initially, some titles were unavailable for digitization because their respective publishers had not joined the program. Sega's inclusion, confirmed on September 28, means that franchises such as Sonic and Persona can now be converted. This broadens the scope of games players can bring into the digital library.
Beyond publisher additions, Xbox has also made usability improvements. The process for claiming a digital license has been simplified; it now occurs automatically upon inserting the disc, rather than requiring navigation through the console's settings menu. First-time users will see an on-screen explainer, with subsequent claims prompting a non-intrusive pop-up notification.
