A remaster of the 2004 video game based on the DreamWorks animated film Shrek 2 has reportedly leaked, with an Xbox store listing appearing online. This marks the latest development for the ogre franchise, which also has the upcoming film Shrek 5 on the horizon.
The leak follows a September report of Steam Achievements for an unannounced Shrek 2 remaster. The Xbox store listing, which has since been removed, provided details about the game and even included its announcement trailer, as first reported by GameSpot. Leaks via Xbox store pages have preceded the official reveal of other titles, including Mewgenics and Rayman Origins Enhanced Edition earlier this year.
The original Shrek 2 game was developed by Luxoflux and published by Activision. It adapted the film's plot into an isometric action-adventure. While not a groundbreaking title, it was considered a polished and enjoyable experience compared to many licensed games of its era.
According to the leaked information, the remaster is being developed by Apsyr, a studio known for both flawed retro Star Wars game remasters and more successful The Lord of the Rings game re-releases. The Shrek 2 Remastered is expected to feature visual upgrades alongside additions such as a photo mode and a cheat mode. A release window has not yet been confirmed, but it is speculated that the remaster could launch before Shrek 5's theatrical release on June 30, 2027.
