Aspyr Media has officially announced Shrek 2 Remastered, launching on November 10 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. The announcement was accompanied by a trailer that adopts the cinematic and dramatic style of Rockstar Games' marketing for Grand Theft Auto 6.
The upcoming remaster was first hinted at last month through an achievement leak and an early Xbox Store listing, which detailed its planned upgrades. The original Shrek 2, an action-adventure platformer based on the 2004 DreamWorks Animation film, was developed by Luxoflux and published by Activision. In the game, players traverse locations from the movie such as Shrek's swamp, Fiona's castle, and the kingdom of Far Far Away, in addition to original content created for the game.
Players can control Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and other characters, engaging in combat and platforming challenges. The original title featured local cooperative play for up to four players. The remaster promises enhanced visuals, including updated textures, an improved user interface, upgraded cutscenes, and 4K resolution support. A Photo Mode and a Cheat Mode are also being added. Notably, the remaster will introduce online co-op, expanding on the original's local multiplayer capabilities to allow up to four players to team up online.
The release of Shrek 2 Remastered precedes the anticipated arrival of Shrek 5 in 2027, offering fans an opportunity to revisit the franchise's earlier era.
