Brawlhalla, Ubisoft's free-to-play fighting game, is welcoming an unlikely guest: Shrek. The iconic green ogre is the latest addition to the game's roster as part of a special event commemorating the 25th anniversary of the original 2001 film.
The collaboration, which runs until August 19, introduces Shrek, Fiona, and Puss in Boots as playable characters. Donkey is also available in the game, serving as a companion.
Each character brings a unique fighting style and signature items. Shrek can utilize his "Beware of Ogre" sign as a weapon, while Fiona employs her fists and feet. Puss in Boots wields a sword and lance. Donkey provides reactions on the battlefield, acting as a cheerleader.
Beyond the new characters, the event adds two new maps: Shrek's Swamp and Shrek's Muddy Swamp. Additional cosmetic items are available for purchase with real money, including a KO effect featuring Mongo, the giant gingerbread man, and emoji skins for Lord Farquaad, Dragon, and Pinocchio.
This crossover coincides with the 25th anniversary of the first Shrek film, which recently saw a theatrical re-release. The Shrek franchise continues to be a major entertainment force, with four main films grossing over $3 billion worldwide, not including the Puss in Boots spin-offs. Future installments are planned, including Shrek 5 set for Summer 2027 and a Donkey movie in 2028, with Eddie Murphy reprising his voice role. The franchise's enduring popularity is also maintained through Universal Studios theme park attractions and a vast collection of internet memes.
