Skate Developer Acknowledges Modding Community, Promises Official Creative Tools

Full Circle, the developer behind the skateboarding game Skate, has issued a statement acknowledging the growing impact of community-created mods, particularly in light of the popular fan-made modding platform, ReSkate.

The ReSkate platform, released about a week prior to Full Circle's statement, allows players to engage with Skate offline, establish private servers, and design their own maps. The platform has seen significant adoption, with over 350,000 downloads on GitHub.

In a public statement, Full Circle emphasized the importance of community and creative expression, core tenets of skateboarding culture. "Skateboarding in general is built on community and creative expression, and we support that. We love seeing your passion for pushing the limits of San Vansterdam in different ways," the developer shared. "That's why we built our new skateboarding sandbox in San Vansterdam to begin with, to give you, the players, the tools you need to have fun and create amazing content."

However, the developer drew a line regarding mods that undermine the game's economy or exploit its content. "To be completely clear, we are not against creativity from players or stopping that from happening. Where we have to draw the line is when mods or other tools bypass our systems to unlock paid cosmetics, release gated/unreleased content, or profit from these unauthorized assets," Full Circle stated. "That rips off the artists, skate brands, and creators, as well as our own development team here at Full Circle, who work hard to bring skate culture into our game."

Full Circle also confirmed awareness of player desires for "more freedom and custom features" and revealed that the studio is actively developing "official, secure access tools that enable broader, deeper community creation." Further details on these initiatives are expected at a later date.

The surge in interest surrounding ReSkate coincided with a notable increase in Skate's player base. Following the platform's release, the game saw a peak of over 7,000 concurrent players on October 5, the highest figure since its launch in September 2025.

Developers of ReSkate noted to PC Gamer that they "honestly didn't realize how big this was going to be" and that their motivation was "just doing it for the love of the game." They also indicated a readiness to comply with any potential legal action from EA. Despite this, ReSkate remains accessible, and its success appears to have influenced Full Circle's commitment to integrating more community-focused features into Skate.
