The extended trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, released on August 27, has sparked considerable discussion among fans, with one particular moment becoming a notable meme: protagonist Jason’s running backflip off a pier into the ocean.
While many players found the animation peculiar, with some describing it as "off" or "stiff," the real-world possibility of the maneuver was put to the test by athlete and content creator Aspen Tree. After considerable effort and some trial and error, Tree managed to successfully execute the backflip.
Tree’s successful attempt highlights the impressive athleticism required to replicate the move. The difficulty he faced in achieving the precise rotation and mid-air control suggests that such a feat is far beyond the capabilities of the average person. This has led to speculation that Jason possesses an extraordinary level of athletic skill within the game's universe, or that the animation itself, while visually striking, may not perfectly capture the fluidity of such a jump.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release on November 19. It remains to be seen whether Rockstar Games will make any adjustments to Jason's backflip animation before the game's launch.
